Sylvie Schepens: the artist of negentropy
From binary rigidity to organic eruption
Trained in the demanding world of digital creation, Sylvie Schepens spent years working within the precision of code and calculated imagery. However, in 2021, a revelation at the Centre Pompidou during an exhibition dedicated to the feminine voices of abstraction shattered this rigid framework. She left the museum with a definitive certainty: the urgency of matter. This transition from the digital realm to pigment is not a mere career change; it is the beginning of a negentropic struggle.
Combating chaos, injecting life
Based in Le Kremlin-Bicêtre and trained at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Sylvie Schepens has turned the canvas into a battlefield against oblivion. Where time transforms everything into dust, waste, or silence, she intervenes to reorganize, structure, and revitalize.
Her work unfolds across monumental formats through three fundamental pillars:
-
Chaos: she does not seek to order the world but to transmute disorder. Her works, such as Fulgurance or Faille chromatique, are fertile collisions where chance becomes a living structure.
-
Energy: through visceral gestures and the use of eclectic media (acrylic, plaster, copper, sand, and recycled elements), she injects kinetic energy into inert systems. Each canvas is a recharge, an interactive space designed to awaken the viewer.
-
Survival: through her installations (such as Le jardin des femmes) and her hybridizations with artificial intelligence, she explores the persistence of life in the face of obsolescence. Her works are no longer mere objects but organisms in poetic resistance.
Redemption through matter
Awarded for her installations (2026 « Art in Situ » Prize) and featured in public collections (2026 Artothèque), Sylvie Schepens does more than paint: she practices an alchemy of reclamation. By blending memories, 1922 newspapers, and technological remnants, she restores dignity to that which was destined for extinction.
Her journey has made a significant mark on the artistic landscape since 2024, with a debut group exhibition at the Paris 13th District Town Hall followed by another at ECAM. 2025 marked the beginning of her solo exhibitions:
-
In Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, fifty works centered on « The Four Seasons » were presented to the public over an eight-month period.
-
Simultaneously, the « Movement » exhibition at the Kremlin-Bicêtre Media Library featured five monumental canvases, true storms of form and color.
-
Finally, the prestigious L’Art et la Matière gallery on Île Saint-Louis celebrated « Lyrical Flight, » confirming the singular scale of an ever-evolving body of work.
In a world that is accelerating and fading away, her art is an affirmation: as long as there is matter and joy, chaos will not prevail.
